The Lying Game- Sara Shepard

Hello! I hope everyone had a good weekend. For the next week I'll be posting reviews of ARCs I'm reading! I received the majority of these ARCs from NetGalley.

Title: The Lying Game
Author: Sara Shepard
Author website: www.sarashepardbooks.com
Rating (1-5): 4
Cover rating: 5
Description: Foster kid Emma Paxton has only just discovered Sutton Mercer, the wealthy twin sister she never knew she had, when Sutton drops off the face of the earth, asking Emma to cover for her at home, school, and with her friends—just for a few days. At first Emma enjoys trying on her sister’s fabulous life: her fiercely loyal friends, her adoring boyfriend, her close-knit family. But as Emma is drawn deeper into Sutton’s world she finds the friends are not so fabulous, the boyfriend is not who she wants to be with, and the family is clinging to long-buried secrets and a veneer of functionality. And worst of all, Sutton may not be coming back. In fact, someone may have made sure she never could…and that someone knows Emma is not who she claims to be. Emma will need all her wits to survive The Lying Game

This book was sort of like The Pretty Little Liars series for me. The first book in the PLL series I liked, but was kind of indifferent about until towards the end. The end of that first book is what hooked me on that first series. This is the same thing that happened with this novel. I liked it, I was interested. I definitely wanted to keep reading. The characters and the story interested me, but the end. Oh man, the end is what hooked me. Hook, line, and sinker. I will be reading this series until the end. I know it will be torture to wait for the next novel. I can't wait to find out what happens.

I liked how the reader learns Sutton's story. How we learn about her life. Emma is kind and sweet. I can't fathom the strength it must take to pretend to be someone else. I felt so bad for her for her past. And, I have high hopes for her love interest in future novels.

I don't know how Shepard weaves this intricate web of deceit, fear, and lies. Her novels fascinate me. Her characters live in a world I can't understand, but yet they're easy to relate to, they're real. This novel comes out in January. If you enjoyed the PPL series, then you will enjoy this as well. Pick this book up to meet the new pretty girls, in a new town, and with a new way to lie.

  1. I read the first 60 pages and am having a hard time really getting into it... maybe it's like you say, this is the first book in a long series, the end is what will hook me.

  2. I can't wait for this to come out- I'm trying to get a review copy, but they seem hard to come by for me. (So I'm stuck posting general blogs about this book.)
